Stop hunting for the perfect Christmas Tree!

19/10/2015

Did you know Christmas trees are as tall as trees can get? Most of the Christmas trees we bring indoors are less than 10 years old. However, given the right time and conditions, Christmas trees can become giants. “The tallest Douglas fir tree in the world, for example, rises 99.7 metres above the soft forest floor. It's the tallest non-redwood conifer in the world,” according to BBC.com.

Christmas trees bring the silly season to life. Some people love the fresh pine smell, while others enjoy the tradition of decorating it. Live Christmas trees are growing in popularity throughout New Zealand.

Demand is outpacing supply year after year. It can take as many as 15 years to grow a tree of typical height (6 - 7 feet) or as little as 4 years, but the average growing time is 7 years. Hence, for every Christmas tree harvested, three seedlings are planted in its place.

Christmas trees are better for the environment, too, especially when the trees are mulched or composted after the season. An artificial tree may last you a few years, but it will stay in a landfill for ages. Plus, Christmas tree farms help remove CO2 from the atmosphere, counteracting the use of fossil fuels. Trees also act as air pollution filters and can remove up to 13 tons of airborne pollutants per acre per year. Christmas tree farms are havens for a wide variety of bird and mammal species, too.

A live Christmas tree is a present worth giving – join in the fun and surprise your staff this Christmas!
